November 1 – December 3 SEASONAL SANDWICH WALK

Two walk routes are available, a 6 or 10km (3.7 or 6.2 mile) trail. The walk route passes the Heritage Museums and Gardens with 76 acres of landscaped grounds. A boardwalk crosses a salt marsh providing a breathtaking view of Cape Cod Bay. The 6km walk requires a drive of .7 of a mile to the start route. Ask for the Walk Box at the Sandwich Stop & Shop courtesy desk. These walks are self-guided.

The entire route is on the paved Cape Cod Canal Recreation Trail. The trail passes a vertical plate railroad lift bridge, the Aptucxet Trading Post, and the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges. The total route is 25 km (15.5 miles) on a flat easily traversed trail. This event is self-guided. Ask for the Walk Box at the Sandwich Stop & Shop courtesy desk for bike trail map and directions. Bicycle helmets are mandatory.

Are you looking for something out of the ordinary to fill your evenings? Join us as we walk the historic and haunted “Old Kings Highway” in Barnstable Village…. The date is 1645 Reverend John Lothrop, founder of Barnstable has a home built on “Old Kings Highway” and is now the Sturgis Library. This structure is to be the oldest building to be used as a library in the United States. There is a resident who has not left this historic building still walking the book shelves and basement. That is just one building on the tour. We travel and stop at many locations like the Superior Court House, The Playhouse, The Barnstable Tavern and more. While on the tour you will hear stories of the conflict between the Loyalists and the American Whigs (Patriots) and how England had a stronghold on this small quaint town. There are over ten stops on the tour and eight are actively haunted locations. You will take a stroll along the headstones in Cobb’s Hill Cemetery where many strange and unusual things have taken place. The last stop on the tour has quite a reputation of being haunted… You will go inside and sit in the darkness of the “Old Jail” built in 1690’s by the order of Massachusetts Bay Colony Courts, and that is very actively haunted

October Events on Cape cod

Looking into october, we’re excited about three coming events: The annual Yarmouth Seaside Festival on October 8-10 (highlights include Main Stage music, a petting zoo, rides, fireworks, a sand sculpture contest and a road race), the Wellfleet Oyster Fest on October 15-16 (a two-day street party celebrating the town’s famous oysters, clams and shell fishing traditions with shucking contests, food vendors, live music and more), and Halloween in Provincetown October 28-31 (featuring haunted tours, masquerade ball, spooky-themed events and more). Falmouth, which is closer, also has a great parade.

Jazz Fest Coming Next weekend in Falmouth

This weekend is Jazzfest. We can’t wait. Still have openings here. please join us.

Jazz Stroll, Friday, September 30th, 6 to 9:30 PM. Stroll starts at Queen’s Buyway and moves up Main Street to Peg Noonan Park. Music in 11 shops and restaurants. Locations, Performers and Times at jazzfestfalmouth.org. Free.

Jazz Concert, Saturday, October 1, 7:30 PM at Highfield Theater, 58 Highfield Drive. Doors open at 6 for music by the Russ Wilcox Group and BBQ by Chef Anthony. Tickets $30 ($35 at the door) can be purchased on the website, Eight Cousins, Market Street Bookshop in Mashpee and in Peg Noonan Park on Friday night.

Introducing our new equestrian packages! Are you travelling with your horse? We’ve made a new connection with Smithfield Farm, located just 3 miles from the inn. We’ve arranged for a few different packages available when you stay at the inn, whether you bring the horses, or you’d like to ride some while staying here!
Horse Boarding

For two nights in the Carriage Suite on the Cape, plus horse lodging at Smithfield Farm, it’s only $500, or $550 for two horses (Oct 15 – May 20). This includes a vacation stall and turnout, while you provide stall cleaning, hay & grain. For an additional $50, (per horse) the farm will provide the stall cleaning, hay & grain. Add $100 to the initial price May 20 – Oct 15.
Romantic Trail Ride Package

This package includes two nights at the inn in the Carriage Suite on the Cape, and a guided two hour trail ride at the Crane Preserve. Choose from a picnic lunch for two or evening hors d’ouerves, Oct 15 – May 20: $760, May 20 – Oct 15: $860.
Riding Lesson, then A Romantic Trail Ride

Need a little instruction before you get up on a horse? No problem! This package includes two nights at the inn in the Carriage Suite on the Cape, a half-hour riding lesson, and a one hour romantic trail ride, including lunch or evening hors d’ouerves. Oct 15 – May 20: $740, May 20 – Oct 15: $840.
Riding Lessons

Just want some lessons? Two nights at the inn in the Carriage Suite on the Cape, plus a private, one hour lesson for one, Oct 15 – May 20: $500, May 20 – Oct 15: $600. Semi-private lesson for two: Oct 15 – May 20: $550, May 20 – Oct 15: $650.

All these packages can be arranged with a Family Suite booking as well; please discuss prices and availability with the innkeeper.

We lost power, but our generator kicked in and our guests felt the storm a wonderful adventure. Our garden and deck are magnificent. It’s gorgeous here and we have availability for labor Day weekend.

Our tomatoes have really taken off. I hung netting behind them and am tying the plants on so that as the tomatoes set, it the netting can support the weight and we won’t have a catastrophe in a storm. The hydroponic planter is having a second crop – now eggplant, cukes, zucchini and beans.

The paving of our road is complete.

It’s such a pleasure to be on a paved road. The road is one way now and we have to go around the block every time we leave, but it’s fun to see the neighbors. The garden seems to change over night.

Since Memorial Day, the weather has been wonderful: clear sunny days and cool crisp nights. It’s perfect for my garden. The path to the beach is like a walk through wonderland
